The BCT is pre-set for a four minute cycle consisting of a two minute lift and a two minute lowering. The cycle of lifting and lowering can also be programmed to lift only halfway up and then return to the starting position. In addition, there are multiple control buttons at your fingertips that both start the cycle and that if pressed a second time will stop the cycle at any point in the process and return the BCT to the starting position. This allows an infinite level of adjustment for every person every time.

Always consult a physician before using any exercise equipment. If there are no medical reasons preventing you from forward bending (flexion) or backward bending (extension) then we recommend starting in the face down position. Our bodies are familiar with forward bending and that position conditions the body for the more demanding backward bending. If you feel comfortable after using the BCT face down then try it face up. Remember that how much you stretch is always under your control and the most efficient progress is not exceeding your limits.

Most people report feeling very relaxed after using the BCT. Remember that this is exercise and just like any new exercise you may feel some stiffness as you begin to move muscles that have become tight. Since you are lying down in a relaxed position there is less tendency for your body to resist the stretch and that helps make this an enjoyable and beneficial process.

The slow and gentle stretching of the back muscles, with your weight fully supported, provides the spine with an opportunity to decompress. Back muscles that have been chronically contracted are allowed to relax and recover lost flexibility.

We recommend at least twice a week. Since this is a relaxing exercise people have used it twice a day with positive effects. With repeated use you may find your back flexibility and back comfort increasing. Like any exercise you need to determine what frequency and duration is effective and convenient for you.

If a person has no medical reason for avoiding forward or backward bending the BCT can be beneficial. The slow and gentle motion combined with controls that are always at your fingertips makes this a valuable and safe tool for increasing back flexibility with many conditions that limit mobility.

Slow and comfortable forward and backward bending while fully supported on a heated and padded surface not only assists back flexibility - it can help relieve muscle tension and correct posture in the shoulders and neck.
